I normally hate aquarium backgrounds, but these are beautifully made! They are not stickers like the normal ones, but actual 3d plates.
In use:
The backgrounds are around 400 euros each.

You could make one yourself, some rocks and some epoxy/cement of such and it'll work out.

Wouldn't the cement be toxic to the animals? (some are very sensitive to poisoning, especially young fish and shrimps.)

Hmm, i bet there is a form of cement that you could use.
There is 100000 kinds of cement, you could also work with glassfibre and paint it.

I tried to find some info on home-made aquarium backgrounds... I would rather just not have a background then have one of these:
I prefer my boring, cover-up the wall with a lot of plants, technique.

I could live with the last one, if it had settled and had plants on it, without the foam 'course
